Playdium announces first Canuck complex: Mississauga site

Playdium Entertainment Corporation has begun construction on its first Sega City@Playdium interactive entertainment centre.

The $17 million project is slated to open in August on an 11.5-acre site in Mississauga, Ont.

Sega City will house over 180 high-tech video simulators and interactive games.

The year-round complex will also feature indoor and outdoor sports activities, such as Grand Prix go-cart racing, an 18-hole mini-golf course, beach volleyball courts, three-on-three basketball courts, a baseball dome with batting cages and an outdoor rock-climbing wall.

This is the first centre to be opened by Playdium in partnership with Sega GameWorks, a joint venture of Sega Enterprises, DreamWorks SKG and mca.

A total of 40 such centres are expected to open in Canada over the next five to seven years.

Temple Scott Associates of Toronto handles public relations for Playdium; Boom Design is taking care of graphic design and some advertising; the media business is with Media Experts of Montreal.

The opening of the Mississauga location is being managed by Toronto-based event marketing firm Arts & Communications Counsellors.
