Editor returns to TL

The new editor of Toronto Life is a returnee to the fold after leaving one of the best city magazines on the continent in 1974.

John Macfarlane, who was editor of Toronto Life from 1972-74, rejoins the magazine on July 27, leaving his post as a principal in John Macfarlane & Associates.

Macfarlane takes over from Marq de Villiers, who was made publisher of Toronto Life recently. De Villiers had been acting as editor in the interim.

From 1990-91 Macfarlane was managing editor of news, features and information programming at the CTV Television Network.

Before that, he was publisher of Saturday Night magazine from 1980-87, and editor of the now-defunct Weekend Magazine in the late 1970s.

During those years, Macfarlane was also executive and associate editor of Maclean’s. DC
