Michael McCarty is the new president of EMI Music Publishing Canada.
McCarty will work out of emi’s offices in Toronto.
Before his appointment, McCarty was a creative director for EMI Music Publishing in Los Angeles. Before that he was creative manager for SBK Songs Canada.
– Robert D. Frank Jr. has taken over as vice-president, marketing for Chrysler Canada. Frank has been with the corporation since 1968, most recently as New York zone sales manager.
He is replacing Thomas R. Marinelli, who has moved to the Highland Park, Mich. head office of Chrysler as director, national dealer relations.
Marinelli joined Chrysler in 1975 and held the top Canadian marketing post for the past 15 months.
– Kodak Canada has appointed W. J. (Jack) Scott to the position of marketing vice-president and general manager for federal government markets.
Scott, who is based in Ottawa, replaces Denis Masse, who is retiring after a 37-year career with Kodak.
– Pitney Bowes of Canada has appointed Elaine (Lewis) Lurie to the newly created position of director, corporate communications.
Lurie will be responsible for developing and implementing all advertising, direct marketing and public relations campaigns. She will also oversee the company’s communications including conferences, employee publications and sales incentive programs.
– Goodyear Canada has named Craig Essex as manager of auto service marketing.
In his new position, Essex, who was formerly manager of franchise sales, will be responsible for overall auto service marketing, promotion and advertising.
He will also manage Goodyear’s Air Miles program through which the Etobicoke, Ont.-based tire company issues free air travel to customers patronizing its 650 outlets coast to coast.
Essex replaces Greg Hudson, who is now responsible for national accounts in the Ontario region.
– Shoppers Drug Mart has appointed Eric (Rick) Irwin as director of marketing for the Prairies.
A six-year Shoppers employee, Irwin most recently held the post of operations co-ordinator. Before that, he managed two company- owned pharmacies.
Recruiters
R. Perry Management Consultants has named Terry M. Donnelly as a senior consultant, responsible for recruitment in the fields of sales promotion, media sales and consumer goods sales.
Donnelly, who was previously with Chad Management Group, has five years’ experience in recruitment.
R. Perry Management specializes in the communications industry. Its sister company, Mandrake Management Consultants, specializes in marketing and sales recruiting.
Agencies
Norbert Abrams has joined Miller Myers Bruce DallaCosta, Toronto, as account director responsible for the Subaru Canada business. Abrams brings 16 years of marketing, packaged goods and automotive experience to his new position.
Abrams most recently spent three years with Laser Communications as director of strategic planning and business development.
Thomas Batho has taken on the job of media director at mmbd. Batho was previously associate media director at Baker Lovick BBDO.
– SMW Direct’s first account director is Richard Toker.
Toker joins SMW Direct from McCann-Erickson Advertising’s direct marketing business, where he worked for the last two years.
SMW Direct, a branch of SMW Advertising in Toronto, set up shop nearly 18 months ago. Its clients include Lexus, Bell Mobility Cellular, Marion Merrell Dow, Astra Pharma and others.
– Ken Stallman, previously vice-president client service director at SMW Advertising of Toronto, has been named senior vice-president, director of Healthcare. Stallman, a director of smw, has been with the agency since 1981.
Senior account director Larry Falls has been promoted to the post of group account director responsible for smw’s ethical healthcare clients which include Astra, Ciba Geigy, Connaught Novo Nordisk, Ferring and Organon.
Martin Stewart has moved up from senior account director to group account director, working primarily with major smw client, Lexus.
Account supervisor Debrann Barr is now senior account supervisor – Healthcare for clients such as Marion Merrell Dow, Astra and Janssen.
– John McAuliffe has joined Andrew & Cook Advertising of Toronto as executive vice-president. McAuliffe was previously with Dell McAuliffe Winter, which ceased operation this past March.
Some Dell McAuliffe clients are expected to follow McAuliffe to his new post.
Andrew & Cook is a 15-year-old shop with a retail client base.
– The Toronto office of Continental PIR has promoted two staffers to the position of consultant.
George James has worked with the firm for more than three years with clients in the areas of environment communications and community relations.
Michelle Lane has primarily spent her two years with Continental PIR working with clients in the foodservice industry.
– Philip Congreves brings 10 years’ experience in lay out, design and print production to his new position of production manager at Toronto’s Peckham McGirr Communications.
Media
Montreal-based Selection du Reader’s Digest has a new editor-in-chief, just the third person to hold the position in the 45 years the magazine has been published in Canada.
The new boss is Daniel Perusse, who was formerly a freelance writer for Selection and who has also written for Quebec-Science, L’Actualite and many other Quebec publications.
