Moosehead Breweries of Dartmouth, n.s., Canada’s third-largest brewer, is launching its popular Moosehead Canadian Lager beer in Sweden.

This month, after negotiations with the Swedish government dating back to last April, Moosehead will ship 2,400 cases of 24 bottles to the Scandinavian country, which is already inundated with about 50 imported brands from around the world.

Gross shipments for the year are expected to be about 50,000 cases.

- The Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association of Canada has announced a packaging practices code aimed at reducing industrial and consumer packaging waste.

Released in December, the NDMAC Code of Preferred Packaging Practices encourages member companies to make a commitment to meet the environmental targets contained in Environment Canada’s National Packaging Protocol.

Under the protocol, introduced in 1989, manufacturers must achieve a 50% reduction in industrial and consumer packaging waste by 2000.

The code lays out a process to meet the target through a combination of materials reduction, reuse and recycling.

- Molson Breweries has launched a new responsible alcohol use program called Take Care on the Trails. The program is designed to educate the public on the importance of responsible drinking during winter recreation, such as snowmobiling.
