Richard Peddie, the former president of Pillsbury Canada before he took over as president and chief executive officer of SkyDome, the entertainment palace in downtown Toronto, has taken a leave of absence until the end of October.

During the next five months, Peddie will act as president and chief operating officer of the Palestra group, one of the organizations seeking an National Basketball Association franchise for Toronto.

In the interim, Bob Hunter will be SkyDome’s acting president.

Peddie began his career in 1970 at Colgate-Palmolive.


Robert Lord left his post of vice-president general manager, advertising and media at Groupe Everest earlier this month and is now senior marketing consultant at cftm-tv in Montreal.

During his 22-year career in the agency business, Lord has held client service and media positions.

Before joining Everest two years ago, he was with pnmd in Montreal for 14 years, leaving while executive vice-president/media director.

Everest President Claude Boulay says he expects to have a replacement for Lord by the fall.

- Ian Gardner has been appointed general manager of the new Toronto office of Weaver Tanner & Miller.

Weaver Tanner, of Kitchener, Ont., opened the office earlier this month to service its new Ontario Hydro corporate and energy management account.

Gardner, most recently general manager of the Toronto office of Calgary-based Hayhurst Communications, has also held senior account management positions with Saatchi & Saatchi and McCann-Erickson Advertising during his 18 years in the business.

Shelley Livock has moved from Weaver Tanner, Kitchener, to the Toronto office as project manager.

Livock has moved up the ranks steadily since joining the company in 1990 as account co-ordinator for the public relations division.

- Copywriter Judy John teams up with art director Lara Palmer early next month at McKim Baker Lovick/BBDO after a six-month stint at Geoffrey B. Roche & Partners.

John was with Chiat/Day before Roche.

All are Toronto agencies.

- Leo Burnett, Toronto, has announced a number of new promotions.

Jeff Finkler has moved to the newly created position of vice-president, associate creative director.

Finkler joined Burnett in 1986 as copywriter after four years on the client side with a car company.

Ken Rodger has been promoted to senior vice-president, head of production.

In 1974, Rodger joined the agency as broadcast producer. He left in 1983 to spend more than five yers with a production house before rejoining Burnett in 1989.

Leslie Moncur has been named studio manager.

She started with the agency as a graphic designer six years ago.

On the account service side, Gerry Frascione has taken over as client service director in addition to his post of senior vice-president, account director for Kellogg’s.

Lance Saunders, with Burnett as account executive since 1988, is now account director on the Johnson & Murphy and Seagram’s accounts.

Judy Flanagan has been named account director of Neilson Cadbury.

For the last 12 years Flanagan has been in account services working on Kraft General Foods, Seagram’s and Kellogg’s accounts

- Kathy Gardner has been promoted to vice-president, manager of broadcast buying at Backer Spielvogel Bates Canada.

Gardner joined bsb more than five years ago.

- Ron Knight has been named general manager of Robertson Pick Advertising and Communications of Vancouver.

Knight was previously with KARO Design Resource, where he was a partner for 11 years.

Also new to Robertson Pick are Karen Berkhout, account co-ordinator, and Mark McCurdy, who has moved to the post of account supervisor after eight years with Palmer Jarvis Advertising.


Sally Thoun is the new promotion manager at Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, Canada.

Thoun handles promotion and publicity for Warner Bros. tv products in Canada.

She joined Warner Bros. in 1990.

- Target Mail has added two senior consultants to its staff.

They are Lise Hansen, former vice-president, group account director at Foot Cone & Belding in Toronto, and Hersh Forman, former category manager on Sterling-Winthrop’s analgesics business.

Hansen and Forman are working with clients in the development and execution of database marketing programs.
