Greyhound Lines of Canada has introduced ‘The Great Greyhound Courier Express Sweepstakes,’ a two-pronged promotion featuring a sweepstakes and a scratch-and-win contest.

Launched in June to customers of Greyhound’s courier division, the program will give them the chance to win more than $3.6 million in cash and prizes.

It is expected to run for as long as three years.

‘This sweepstakes was developed as a long-term promotion to reward our charge account customers each time they ship an item,’ says John Munro, Greyhound’s executive vice-president.

Monthly draws will be held in the ‘Waybill Sweepstakes’ for a chance to win a cash prize of $100,000 (paid in a 10-year annuity), a new car and trips for two on Air Canada and Premier Cruise Lines.

In addition, every time a charge customer ships a package, they receive a ‘Scratch ‘n’ Win’ card.

About 750,000 cards will be distributed over the next three months alone, giving customers the chance to win such prizes as seven-day Greyhound passes for two, mystery bus tours for the office, discounts off the previous months’ bills, office electronics equipment and coffee mugs.

As an indication of the potential success of the program, Greyhound’s initial direct mail campaign introducing the sweepstakes generated a whopping 19% response rate.

- Harvey’s, which operates 250 restaurants across Canada, has begun supplying in-flight children’s meals to Air Canada.

Air Canada will serve Harvey’s Hamburger and Homefries and Harvey’s Chicken Fingers and Homefries on flights departing from major Canadian cities.

In addition to the meal, children will receive a free pair of Harvey’s sunglasses.

As well, each food tray will include a Family Meal Deal coupon, redeemable at any Harvey’s restaurant.

Harvey’s parent company is Cara Operations, which provides meal preparation at airports across Canada through its Airline Services Division.

- Molson, in co-operation with the Ontario Provincial Police Department and the Metropolitan Toronto Police, has announced a water safety program.

‘Take Care in the Water’ is an Ontario public awareness campaign to help educate people on the importance of safe water and boating practices and of using alcohol responsibly when near the water or involved in water-related activities.

Molson, the opp and the Metro Police Marine Unit will distribute waterproof tip cards that remind cottagers, boaters and the general public to familiarize themselves with boating regulations and safety precautions when they are in, on, or near the water.

Molson will use its ‘Take Care’ Suzuki Sidekick sports vehicles on the road to several water events to distribute the cards and other Take Care promotional materials.
