Canadian pharmaceutical manufacturer Searle Canada has bought the rights to Nutri Bar and Nutri-Diet products from Sante Naturelle.

Nutri Bar and Nutri-Diet products are natural food supplements and meal replacements sold in three formulas: milkshakes, puddings and bars.

Developed and launched 14 years ago by La Prairie, Que.-based Sante Naturelle, the products compete in a market worth about $80 million in Canada.

Oakville, Ont.-based Searle’s consumer products division consists of one product – the table-top sweetener Equal. It is in the process of hiring new marketing and sales staff to handle the new product lines.

As well, the company is taking on new office space to house its consumer products division in St. Laurent, Que.

Deacon Day Advertising of Toronto handles Searle’s advertising needs on Equal.

Previously, Sante Naturelle did advertising for Nutri Bar and Nutri-Diet in-house.

Searle officials could not be reached to say whether it will award Nutri Bar and Nutri-Diet to Deacon or another agency.
