In a move that signals the personal computer price war has yet to subside, Compaq Canada has announced price reductions across its entire line of Compaq ProLinea desktop personal computers.

Compaq, a wholly-owned subsidiary of u.s.-based Compaq Computer, has lowered the list price on all ProLinea models by up to 18%, effective July 26.

ProLinea, which is aimed at the home office and small business, was introduced in June 1992.

John Boyle, Compaq’s marketing director, says ‘this pricing action reflects our goal to aggressively pursue market share with a broad range of industry leading products.’

- United Media Canada named Novel Teez Designs of Montreal as a new licensee for Peanuts apparel.

Novel Teez, a seven-year-old firm, makes, distributes and imports licensed activewear, headwear, sportswear, swimwear, outerwear and apparel-related accessories.

United Media holds the Canadian rights for apparel bearing designs related to Peanuts, Snoopy, Garfield and Fido Dido.

- The Association of Canadian Advertisers has appointed executive-search firm Spencer Stuart to conduct a search for a candidate to replace John Foss as president and chief executive officer.

Spencer Stuart specializes in recruiting at the senior management and board levels. Barbara Whittall, a senior director at the firm’s Toronto office, is in charge of the search.

- Epson Canada of Markham, Ont. has named EMJ Data Systems as its national distributor for cash register printers, also known as point-of-sale (p-o-s) products.

emj is a national distributor of p-o-s products, computers and peripherals.

- HOJ Car & Truck Rentals has launched a summer billboard campaign aimed at Ontario drivers and transit riders.

The campaign, created by hoj’s agency-of-record, Straiton/Enge Advertising, is intended to build awareness of hoj’s daily rental business.

Jack Forrester, director of franchise development with hoj, says the rental firm opted for outdoor billboards, in part, because it wanted to reach prospective customers who drive.

- The Consumer Products Division of Searle Canada has launched an outdoor ad campaign for its meal replacement product, Nutribar.

Robert J. Gould, general manager of the division, says ‘outdoor offers us a unique opportunity to reach our active, on-the-go target audience.’

The English and French campaign was created by Toronto ad agency Deacon Day Advertising.
