Merisel Canada of Concord, Ont. has tapped former IBM Canada staffer Dave Thomas as its vice-president of sales.

Thomas spent 28 years with ibm, the last eight as a brand manager on the company’s personal systems business.

As brand manager, Thomas was involved in the launch of such ibm products as the PS/1, PS/2, ThinkPad and ValuePoint.

In addition, he played a role in the launch of Ambra, the computer line launched in 1992 by ExperComp Services, a subsidiary of IBM Canada, and he spent two years running ibm’s retail store operation, IBM Product Centres.

- Brother International of Montreal has named Robert Anderson as its executive vice-president.

Anderson, who has 15 years’ experience in high-tech industries, was most recently vice-president, marketing, Crowntek Business Centres.

Brother International is a subsidiary of Brother Industries of Japan.

Art Director Clarke Smith has signed on with Franklin Dallas of Toronto to team up with copywriter Jeff Eamer on accounts such as Chieftain Toys, P.E.I. Tourism and Tilden.

Smith comes from Young & Rubicam where he worked on Budget Rent A Car, Ford and Labatt for more than four years, after a one-year term with J. Walter Thompson.

- Russ Philion has joined Sierra Corporate Productions of Toronto as vice-president, sales and marketing.

Philion ran his own video production firm for a year before joining Sierra.

He was with AV House for a year before that, and started his career with an eight-year stint at Canada Audio Visual Communications.

April Yetman has joined Metroline Research Group, which has its headquarters in Waterloo, Ont.

Yetman is the organization’s director of West Coast operations and will be based in Vancouver beginning in October.

In her new job, Yetman will manage all qualitative and quantitative field services.

- The new president of direct mail specialist Postal Promotions is Joseph Halloran, who has spent two years with the firm as vice-president.

Before joining Toronto-based Postal, Halloran spent 18 years in the direct mail and mail order industry.
