Novotel is expected to name a new head of marketing for North America by the end of the month.

Last summer, Novotel, which has nine hotels in North America, including six in Canada, closed down its Canadian marketing department and shifted marketing responsibility for the Canadian market to its u.s. head office in Scarsdale, n.y.

Novotel, which owns or operates 270 hotels around the world, is a division of Paris-based Group Accor, which owns or operates 2,000 hotels worldwide.

Branch offices

Eight years ago, the company set up offices in Canada and the u.s. to handle the two markets separately.

Didier Rabette, vice-president of sales and marketing for Novotel in Canada for the last four years, left the firm in the summer at the time of the merger.

Rabette has subsequently joined Edumicro, a Montreal software training company, as vice-president of development.

Novotel is running a sweepstakes, involving all its North American locations, to promote the opening of four locations in Italy.

As part of the ‘La Dolce Vita’ promotion running until Nov. 17, guests of Novotel in North America will be eligible to win a trip to Florence.

Additional prizes include bicycles and cappuccino makers, which will be made available on-site at each of the North American locations.
