John Crosbie, 73

John Crosbie, former president of Magazines Canada and the recipient of the Canada medal, died Jan. 10 at the age of 73.

Crosbie began his career as a radio announcer in Sydney, n.s. He later went into advertising with J. Walter Thompson.

Crosbie worked in Toronto, Chicago, and, eventually, became a senior vice-president with jwt in San Francisco.

From 1967 to his retirement in 1986, Crosbie ran Magazines Canada.

A one-time chair of the Canadian Advertising Foundation, Crosbie wrote Crosbie’s Dictionary of Puns, The World’s Worst Puns and Crosbie’s Book of Punned Haiku, as well as founding and chairing the Save the Pun Association and publishing its newsletter, ‘The Pundit.’
