John Clinton is the new president and chief executive officer of J. Walter Thompson, Canada.

Clinton takes over from Andy Krupski, who is leaving the agency after 12 years, the past four as president.

Krupski’s departure comes only weeks after the agency was dropped by Labatt Breweries of Canada from its flagship Blue brand in a broad agency shuffle.

But Ron Burns, jwt group president for North America, says the two events are not connected.

He says jwt and Krupski had been discussing his future with the company for some time.

It appears Krupski will be pursuing new opportunities in the Toronto market.

Clinton, described by people who know him as personable and ‘a person with great people skills,’ has been with jwt since 1979.

He has worked on some of the agency’s biggest accounts, such as Pepsi-Cola and Mattel, and has been recently heading jwt’s satellite agency, Enterprise Advertising.

Clinton remains chairman of Enterprise and the agency’s director of client services, Sarah Moran, takes over operations until a successor is named.
