Ammirati takes on Labatt media duties

Labatt Breweries of Canada has switched some of its media planning duties to its primary creative agency, Ammirati & Puris, from Harrison Young Pesonen & Newell, which handles media buying.

Ammirati & Puris has been staffing up since being awarded the bulk of the Labatt creative business this past January.

Since taking over planning, Ammirati & Puris has added a second senior media director devoted to Labatt.

Sean Cunningham has moved to the Toronto Ammirati & Puris office from New York as vice-president, media director.

Kelly Konis, vice-president, associate media director, made the move from New York last month.

Konis has taken care of Canadian media planning for Compaq Computer for the past two years and has also assumed that responsibility for United Parcel Service.

Susan Lalingo has left McKim Baker Lovick/BBDO to join Ammirati & Puris as vice-president, group director.

Lalingo has previously worked at J. Walter Thompson, Northern Telecom and Saatchi & Saatchi.

Two account managers have also been added to the agency’s staff list: Jill Engleman from McCann-Erickson Advertising, and Norm Yustin from M Promotional Marketing.

On the creative side, two art directors and two copywriters have joined the team.

Benjamin BenSimon has signed on as vice-president, art director after a successful stint as a freelancer.

The last agency BenSimon was with was MacLaren:Lintas, where he worked on Miller Genuine Draft, Ciba-Geigy and Sunlight detergent.

Before that, he was at Vickers & Benson.

New art director Stephen Jurisic was previously with Saatchi & Saatchi on the Toyota business.

Before Saatchi, he worked on Coca-Cola and Sprite at McCann-Erickson, and on Nabisco and Ocean Spray at Bozell.

The new copywriters are Tom Goudie and Andrew Manson.

Goudie comes from DDB Needham and was with Young & Rubicam before that. Some of the accounts he has worked on include Ford, DuPont, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Hershey, Heinz and Panasonic.

Manson was most recently with Ranscombe & Co., and, before that, with Ambrose Carr Linton Kelly.

He has worked on accounts such as Magazines Canada, Yamaha Marine, Honda motorcycles, Blue Cross and Fram.
