Bresler’s Industries, a u.s.-based ice cream and yogurt retailer, is eyeing the Canadian market.

For the past year, the company, which operates about 200 retail outlets under the Bresler’s Ice Cream & Yogurt Shops banner and another 100 under several regional banners, has been trying to acquire a registered trademark for the Bresler’s name in Canada.

Michael Rapaport, director of marketing for Bresler’s, which maintains its headquarters in Des Plaines, Ill., says he expects to receive approval for the trademark within the next three months.

Rapport says that after it acquires the trademark, Bresler’s will likely wait at least 12 months before moving into Canada.

Over the past year, Bresler’s has had its hands full expanding its retail concept into a variety of international markets, including Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Saudi Arabia.

Rapaport says the Canadian market will be a more difficult market to penetrate than other international markets because ice cream retailing here is a highly developed industry similar to that in the u.s. PA
