Hill and Knowlton has bought Berger & Associates public relations firm from Ogilvy & Mather Canada.

Both companies are part of London-based WPP PLC.

There will not be any layoffs at Berger, although, after the transition period, President Robert Baugniet plans to leave the firm he has been with for 30 years.

Berger, founded in 1960 as Monty Berger & Co., has offices in Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton.

The Edmonton office will change its name to Hill & Knowlton, and the Ottawa office will merge with h&k’s office in that city.

Berger & Associates, Toronto will keep the name and continue to operate separately from h&k.

h&k, Canada’s largest public relations, government affairs and research company, has offices in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Calgary, and also owns polling and research firm Decima Research.
