The march towards full-blown infomercials airing on Canadian tv stations during the broadcast day continues.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has called for public comment on the proposal from broadcasters and advertisers to allow infomercials from 6 a.m. to midnight.

At present, the crtc has rules effectively preventing broadcasters from running infomercials during day and evening hours, leaving open only the midnight to 6 a.m. slot.

Canada’s broadcasters and advertisers propose the authorization for the airing of infomercials during the broadcast day be given as a condition of licence.

That would require broadcasters to file an application with the crtc, triggering a public review at which the public could comment.

Additionally, the federal regulator wants public comment on its proposed guidelines, which could govern the airing of infomercials during the broadcast day.
