I am writing to correct two inaccuracies in an article entitled ‘Heineken comes to Brewers Retail,’ written by David Chilton in your March 21 issue.

In his article, Mr. Chilton, using information from outside sources, attributes Beck’s as the first imported beer brand into Brewers Retail.

This is not the case.

The first imported beer into Brewers Retail on Sept. 13, 1993 was genuine u.s.-brewed Old Milwaukee and Old Milwaukee Light from the Stroh Brewery Company.

Beck’s was first available in Beer Stores on Jan. 10, 1994, followed by Heineken on Feb. 7, 1994.

Finally, the Beck’s brand is represented by Sainsbury & Co. in Ontario, not by Labatt International Brands, as alleged in the subject article.
