Molson Breweries and the National Hockey League have signed a four-year deal for national tv rights, marking an association between the brewery and the league that goes back more than 40 years.

The agreement gives Molson conventional and pay cable rights in English and French, two national dates each week of the season and the entire Stanley Cup playoffs.

No financial details of the pact were disclosed.

Molson also announced it has reached an agreement with cbc tv to be the national English broadcaster of Molson Hockey Night in Canada double-header games on Saturdays during the regular season and during most playoff games.

The first double-header is Oct. 1. The games run for 26 consecutive weeks, one broadcast from the East and one broadcast from the West. As well, Societe Radio-Canada will be the French broadcaster for Saturday night regular season and playoff games.

tsn and its French counterpart, rds, will broadcast Monday night and first-round playoff games.
