Canada’s market leader in light bulbs, General Electric Lighting, is bringing a new line of products to market with a u.s.-inspired positioning that emphasizes personal safety and security.

Gary Gumz, Cleveland-based manager of trade relations for GE Lighting, says the saf-t-guard products will be marketed to trade customers from that Ohio city.

Gumz says GE Lighting is doing some trade-based advertising for the new lights, and some co-op advertising with its Canadian customers is planned.

He says consumer advertising for the saf-t-guard products, available in Canada next month, will be left to GE Lighting clients such as K-Mart, Zellers and Western Grocers.

There are nine products in the saf-t-guard line: a halogen photocell floodlight; soft white Teflon-coated bulbs; a safety electrical outlet cover with a built-in guidelight; a photoelectric clear night light; a shuttered receptacle and safety caps for electrical outlets; an infrared sensor security alarm with an angle bracket; a Teflon-coated post light, and Ruff-N-Tuff Teflon-coated bulbs.

Gumz says the security alarms and photocell floodlights are inexpensive ways to make a home more secure.

Two of the new products are ge exclusives – the halogen photocell floodlight, in 45 or 85 watts, and the soft white Telflon-coated bulb in 60 and 100 watt sizes.
