A new survey of Canadian teens found advertisers will enjoy the most success with this group if their message is funny.

The ‘What! About Teens’ survey says 52.6% of teens prefer advertising – in any medium – that is funny, and 51.3% of them like ads to be outrageous or unusual.

Elsewhere, the survey, conducted by Blumes & Associates Marketing Survey Research for Winnipeg-based What! A Magazine, found teen likes and purchases are fairly predictable.

Potato chips was listed as the favorite snack of the nearly 500 English-speaking teens surveyed, followed by chocolate and pizza/pasta.

The survey says 69.2% of respondents say they have a computer at home, 56.4% have a portable tape or cd player, and 48.2% have their own stereo. DC
