Canada Games is launching a game in Canada called pog with a campaign from bcp in Toronto.
pog was first played in the 1920s with cardboard milk bottle caps.
It had a resurgence in the 1950s and came back with a vengeance in Hawaii in 1991, with children there using fruit juice caps from pog (passion fruit, orange and guava) instead.
A 30-second commercial is running on ytv to hit the primary target group, children aged eight to 11, along with an interior transit card.
The fast-cutting tv spot moves to the surfer beat of ‘POG, POG, POG is the word,’ an adaptation of the ’60s hit, Surfer Bird.
Images of pog disks are interspersed with supers of ‘100% authentic,’ ‘Got it. Got it. Need it. Need it,’ ‘Hide. Your parents,’ and, ‘Don’t try this at home.’
