Two recent company purchases have put into question the fate of the advertising assignments for the new organizations.
The two mergers are the purchase of Okanagan Spring Brewery of Vernon, b.c. by Sleeman Brewing and Malting of Guelph, Ont. and the acquisition of the Oakville, Ont.-based Tim Hortons by Wendy’s International of Dublin, Ohio.
Julie Caldwell, communications co-ordinator of Sleeman Brewing, says the Sleeman-Okanagan advertising accounts will not be an issue for at least three months when the deal is expected to be completed.
Sleeman has been working with Promanad Communications of Toronto since the end of 1993.
Advertising for Okanagan is handled by Graham Catchlove, former vice-president general manager of the now-closed J. Walter Thompson office in Vancouver.
There are no immediate changes in the works for the Wendy’s or Tim Hortons advertising accounts either.
Becky Lusk, spokesperson for Wendy’s International, says they will not even be looking at the advertising functions of the companies until at least the end of the year.
The Tim Hortons account, estimated at $9.5 million, is with Enterprise Advertising of Toronto.
Bates Canada, of Toronto, the sister company of Wendy’s u.s. agency Bates New York, has the Canadian business valued at about $8 million.
