The Co-operators Group launched a pilot insurance-by-phone program in two markets last month to prepare for its rollout next year, first to the rest of Ontario and then across the country.
The new insurance service called DirectProtect allows consumers to buy home and automobile insurance over the phone by calling a 1-800 number.
Complete quotes can be provided in 10 minutes or less.
DirectProtect was introduced in Kingston and London, in Ontario, with an eight-week direct marketing campaign from Wunderman Cato Johnson of Toronto.
The campaign consisted of newspaper inserts and 30- and 60-second television commercials.
The Co-operators Group is a 50-year-old group of Canadian-owned companies selling insurance and financial products and services.
It lists assets of more than $3 billion and provides insurance to more than two million Canadians. PS
