WEB AND WIRELESS SCHEDULING DEBUTS

Thanks to a Canadian software developer, service-based businesses such as medical and dental offices, auto maintenance shops, gym franchises, hair salons, and spas and restaurants can now schedule their customer appointments via the Internet, personal digital assistants or wireless Internet devices. Toronto-based E-wares says YourAppointments.com facilitates real-time booking to drive loyalty among consumers while reducing expenses and unsold timeslots. The company says Ontario Mazda plans to use the service to reduce waiting time and extend customer interaction at both its showrooms and service centres.

WEB SERVICE FRONTS LOCAL RETAILERS

A new service is enabling local restaurants and florists to get into the e-commerce game. Delivery.ca, which debuted at the end of October, sets up online storefronts for local businesses and tailors their Internet presence to any geographic region. It then allows users to order online. The Web site currently represents 400 businesses in Ontario – including Flowers Unlimited, Mamma’s Pizza and Crete Plantations – and has immediate plans for national expansion. The site also enables businesses to send flyers and coupons directly to users via e-mail.
