MGI, Toronto, a provider of visual media software and infrastructure solutions, recently named Rocco Rossi as its new president and COO, a new position created to ensure the company’s new operational objectives are met. Rossi was VP, interactive media, and president for at Labatt/Interbrew in Toronto.

The Hockey Company, a Montreal-based manufacturer and marketer of hockey equipment and related apparel, recently signed Bob Desrosiers to its team, where he will fulfill the role of VP, finance and administration.


Y&R Advertising announced that John Farquhar, president and Chief creative officer of Young & Rubicam Canada, has been promoted to president and CEO. Farquhar joined the shop in 1995. In other news, Jim McCoubrey, a past president of Telemedia Publishing, has been appointed as chairman of the shop, which he returns to after 15 years.

PALM Publicité Marketing announced the appointment of Louis Courteau as VP and CD effective September 1. Courteau has 15 years experience as CD at PNMD (now BBDO Canada), where he worked on accounts such as Quebec Federation of Milk Producers, Petro-Canada and Chrysler.

Toronto-based Anderson Advertising, a health and lifestyle agency, named Mark Spurr as VP of client services, domestic healthcare. With nearly 20 years of agency and client-side experience in healthcare, he assumes a new management position at the shop.

Quebec-based Lacroix-Bleau has hired Josée Pâquet as senior account director. Until recently, she worked for Blitz Data Direct et Promotion, an arm of Cossette Communication-Marketing.

Perennial, Toronto, announced Melody Byblow as business director, where she will work on the President’s Choice Financial account. Most recently, she was account director at Allard-Johnson Communications in Montreal.

Kevin Kelly has been named designer at McMillan & Associates, Ottawa. Previously, Kelly spent three years as a designer at Storm Visual Communications, followed by a stint at Acme Advertising. He has worked on accounts for JDS Uniphase, Alcatel and Canadian Museum of Nature, among others. Meanwhile Jeffrey Street has been hired as a senior writer.

Anupam Tewari will join DCC Communications, Toronto, as director of strategic planning. Tewari has experience working on major accounts such as IBM, Subaru, British Airways. DCC also brought on Annie Rizen as director of finance and human resources.

Susan Strack has joined Toronto’s Myriad Marketing Inc., as a senior art director. In the past, Strack has worked for various organizations, including Masterfile, the stock photography e-commerce Web site.

Toronto-based Aware Marketing Group, which supplies promotional products to distributors across North America, has promoted Ron Price to group VP. Previously, Price was director of finance and technology.

MediaVest Worldwide, Toronto, has announced two new hires: Rebecca Misir as a negotiator and Cora Aranjo as a print negotiator. Both hail from Mindshare at Ogilvy & Mather.

The Geppetto Group, a New York-based ad agency that specializes in marketing to youth, recently appointed Sonya Schroeder to senior strategic planner. Schroeder left her post of VP marketing at Youth Intelligence to join the group.
