CMA UNVEILS JOB SEARCH PORTAL

In an effort to address the marketing and advertising community’s need to attract top talent, the Canadian Marketing Association has rolled out a job search portal developed specifically for the marketing industry. Developed in partnership with Brainhunter.com, the CMA CareerSite (www.the-cma.org/careersite.html) is designed to serve as a one-stop shop for both employers and job seekers.

IAB, DOUBLECLICK,MSN MEASURE BRANDING POWER ON THE INTERNET

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB), and member companies DoubleClick and MSN recently unveiled three research studies that demonstrate that the Internet is indeed a viable advertising medium. The studies tested the brand effectiveness of online advertising.

The IAB study, conducted by Dynamic Logic, found that new larger ad units are 25% more effective in lifting key brand metrics such as awareness and association.

The DoubleClick study attempted to uncover the impact of various online marketing tactics on traditional brand marketing goals. The report revealed that aggregated results for three brands across each tactic tested (tactics included awareness and recall), showed an 85% increase in advertising awareness. Banner ads increased brand measures 56% and large rectangles 86%.

For its part, MSN, which tested two campaigns with different creative formats and sizes, found that Skyscraper creative size works best, lifting brand awareness by 16% – four times the average lift. DHTML units lifted awareness by 13%.

B OF M HANDS OUT AIR MILES TO MOM & POP COS

Bank of Montreal is extending the Air Miles Reward Program to its small business banking clients. Collectors will be rewarded points for opening new Everyday banking for Business accounts, or applying for Operating Lines of Credit, Small Business Lines of Credit and a variety of banking products for the agricultural sector. The Air Miles for Business program already offers rewards for making business-related purchases such as courier services and office supplies.

UNIVERSAL AND ICEBERG INK DEAL

In what is being touted as the largest investment in an Internet broadcaster by a Canadian record label, Universal Music Canada is taking an equity position in Iceberg Media.com of Toronto. The long-term arrangement includes a license permitting Iceberg to stream Universal sound recordings. Universal and Iceberg also hope to further develop online music initiatives in Canada, including Internet radio channels for Universal’s Canadian music site www.umusic.ca. Iceberg will retain access and webcasting rights to Universal’s artists and repertoire and Universal will establish a marketing fund for the promotion of Iceberg’s audio channels.
