Clients:

Coast Capital Savings, of Victoria and Richmond, B.C., has appointed Paul Duncan as CEO. He replaces founding CEO Harri Jansson. Duncan also retains his existing title of president of the credit union.

Gerry Pond has retired from Aliant Telecom after 35 years in the telecommunications industry. He most recently held the post of president at the Saint John, N.B.-based company.

The Hockey Company (THC) in Montreal has promoted Yan Martin to global brand manager for its brand, CCM, and appointed David McGibbon as global brand manager for the KOHO and JOFA divisions. They will both oversee strategic marketing initiatives to develop separate identities for the different brands. Martin was previously sales manager for THC in Eastern Canada, while McGibbon comes from Bauer Nike Hockey.

Tennis Canada has named Stacey Allaster VP and tournament director of the Canadian Open in Toronto. She also retains responsibility for corporate sales and marketing. Allaster replaces Jane Wynne who remains VP of operations.

Agencies:

Bates Canada’s David Duncan has been promoted to EVP of planning and new business development. Formerly VP of new business development at the Toronto-based agency, Duncan will also oversee the running of Bates’ account service group. VP, strategic planner, Katie Wallace, has also been promoted, taking on the role of SVP, diversified services.

FCB Toronto has promoted John Boniface to SVP, managing director, and R.P. Kumar to VP, management director/director of strategic planning.

Montreal-based Palm Publicité Marketing has hired Martin Sansregret as VP of synergy and business development. Sansregret’s previous experience includes 17 years with Cossette Communication Marketing.

Vancouver-based Hot Tomali Communications has hired Paulo Vallejo as marketing and sales specialist. He brings a broad range of marketing and sales experience, having previously worked at TAP Ventures.

Gerald George is leaving Gee Jeffery & Partners’ design division, D3, because of ‘philosophical differences.’ George, who established D3 at the Toronto agency in the summer of 2000, plans to pursue independent practice.

Encore Encore Strategic Marketing in Toronto has added John Cochran and Skye Brain to its client services department. Cochran joins from ICE and takes the role of account manager to work on such accounts as Molson Canadian. Brain has been working at Encore on a contract basis and now takes the post of account coordinator.

OMD Canada has promoted Laurissa Stebeleski to media manager at the Toronto office. She has worked on a number of accounts including Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Hostess Frito-Lay and Kraft.

Marsha Barrett and Kandy Walker have joined Toronto-based MediaVest Worldwide (Canada) as planners. Barrett comes from M2 Universal while Walker joins from MBS/ The Media Company.

Indoor poster network NewAd in Toronto has appointed Cristina Kim as SVP and managing director. She previously worked as a regional supervisor for Roots Canada.

Former president of (GTA) Today, Mark Shapiro, has joined Formula Publications in Oakville, Ont. as VP of sales and marketing. Shapiro has an extensive print media background including 13 years with the Toronto Star and five years with the Canadian Newspaper Association.

CHUM Television has promoted Peter Miller to the newly created position of VP of planning and regulatory affairs. In his new role, Miller will act as key strategic advisor on industry developments and growth opportunities for CHUM Television. Miller joined CHUM three years ago as VP of business and regulatory affairs.

Errol Da-Ré has joined Alliance Atlantis in Toronto as VP of English advertising sales. Da-Re hails from CTV where he worked as group director of national sales and director of network sales. Also at Alliance Atlantis, Bryan Press joins from CanWest Global as national sales manager for the Lifestyle Networks.
