Gemcom Software International in Vancouver has appointed Keith Triginer as SVP, Sales; David Whittle, to the role of VP marketing; and Ian Reid will join Gemcom’s board of directors.


Toronto’s Zig is set to gobble up some of the crestfallen from the soon to be defunct Ammirati Puris Toronto. McCann Erickson Worldwide, Ammirati’s parent company, says that along with accounts like Unilever, many people will be absorbed into Zig, which will remain an independent entity despite rampant acquisition rumours.

Alison Simpson, who previously held the position of VP/GM at Enterprise Creative Selling for the last three years, has been named president of the Toronto-based advertising agency.

N5R has appointed Tyler Lang as president. The Toronto-based company has also hired Claire Holland as communications manager

Rico DiGiovanni will be joining Capital C as president and partner in Toronto. DiGiovanni comes to Capital C from Marketing Drive, which he started in 1994.

Toronto-based DraftWorldwide has brought on Karen Henderson as its SVP/CFO. Henderson’s 15-year career has seen her work with Price, Waterhouse and First City Financial.

Robert Morand has joined Deutsch Toronto as SVP/GM. Morand moves from MacLaren McCann in Toronto where he was VP, brand director on a number of key accounts including H&R Block and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

MacLaren McCann West’s Vancouver office has appointed two senior executives. Hagan Ainsworth has been named VP/CD and Sloan Dinning has been named account director. Ainsworth, previously of Hill Holliday in San Francisco, has over 10 years of experience, in both Canada and the U.S. Previous clients include Cisco Systems, and Clearnet Communications. Hagan co-authored Clearnet’s branding at TAXI Toronto with president Paul Lavoie

Heather Chambers joins Toronto’s Leo Burnett as CD. Her last position was at Y&R, where she was VP, associate CD working on Colgate International, Colgate North America, Whitehall Robbins and Campbell’s.

Vancouver-based Wilcox Group has hired Erin McConnell as communications consultant.

Perennial has hired Tamara Smith as business director in the Toronto office. Tamara joins from Ambrose Carr Linton Carroll Advertising, where she was account director for clients such as Schwab Canada, Hershey Canada and Pilot Insurance.

Kathy Fischer has joined MediaVest in Toronto as senior broadcast negotiator. Fischer was most recently at Ammirati Puris as senior broadcast buyer where she worked on clients such as Burger King, President’s Choice, UPS and Second Cup. Josie Bumbaca joins as broadcast manager; she arrives from HYPN where she spent five years as media manager.


Toper Taylor has been promoted to president of international distribution, marketing and consumer products at Toronto-based Corus Entertainment. Taylor will remain president of Nelvana Communications, the L.A.-based sales and development office of Nelvana. Prior to joining 13 years ago, Taylor was a television packaging agent for the William Morris Agency and held public relations positions with Norman Winters & Associates.

Jon Helmrich, president of International Broadcast Communications, has struck a consultancy arrangement with CHUM Television International. Helmrich will concentrate on channel format development and partnerships internationally, in addition to opening new areas of business in the U.S. market for CHUM.

Toronto’s Rogers Television has formed Rogers Television Sales and Marketing, an in-house sales representation team that will sell national English commercial air-time on behalf of CFMT-TV and the newly licensed channel CFMT ‘too.’ Don Lang has been named national sales manager. Other members of the team include: Michael Cansick, previously with CanWest Media Sales; Kimberley Ellis, from Corus Entertainment; and Rhoda ZaFiridas, who hails from Optimum Media Directions.

A new communications team has been created for TSN, OLN, WTSN, ESPN Classic Canada, NHL Network and CTV Sports in Toronto. Dianne Kapral is promoted to communications officer and Matthew Garrow joins the department as communications coordinator.

Some new faces have been added to the CBC’s sales team in Toronto. John Beach has been promoted to account manager, sports. Anne Waring, has been appointed to account executive, corporate partnership sales. Both Christine Williams and Deborah Boudreau join the team as account managers, network.

Clear Channel Outdoor in Toronto has added several new people. Pam Chodda has been appointed national business development manager, mall media. Kevin Leslie has joined as operations manager and Dan Zagury joins as national account executive.
