Radio phone spots turn listeners off

Is it just me, or has there been a rash of telephone ads in the last month or so? Canned radio-like ads from radio stations, no less, clogging up my home voice mail. Could be they've been around a while... but I've never been targeted until now - forced to suffer through the campaigning of Q107 morning-man John Derringer and Soft Rock's host Leeza Gibbons.

While I may humor the odd telemarketer, what makes the networks think I’m going to spend valuable time listening to their seemingly desperate pre-recorded pleas for listeners?

It’s awfully intrusive. In the online space, I’ve come to expect the occasional annoying pop-up, and under, and over and whatever else is out there now. But on my home phone! I’m sorry, please hang-up and try your call again.

Cheers – BJ
