The Vancouver-based agency’s reign continues as the shop that took home the most hardware in the past year. Here’s part of the slew of awards – in addition to other agency tidbits over 2005 – that contributed to DDB Canada’s ninth consecutive ranking as the most winning Canadian agency.

Rare honour: Last May, ‘Dog Tired’ for Pine-Sol was named by the Institute of Communications and Advertising as one of the top 10 English-language ads of the past 50 years. The ad shows a dog home alone sleeping on the kitchen table – until it hears its owner outside and rushes to lie under the table. The tagline: ‘Cleans the dirt you know about and the dirt you don’t.’ The spot first ran in 2003.

What CEO/chairman Frank Palmer has to say about his agency’s reign:
‘It’s sensational,’ he says, when told about the agency’s impressive standing and
nine-year streak. And even, it seems, a tad surprising. ‘It gets tougher,’ he admits, being a big agency in a landscape where great, edgy work seems to only come from the independents. But therein lies the secret of DDB’s success, he says: The agency has maintained the entrepreneurial ‘attitude and spirit’ of the independent that it was at the very beginning. ‘We still operate the way we did as Palmer Jarvis,’ he says. And he promises an even stronger showing next year, with work that ‘pushes boundaries, [and that will] be surprising and refreshing.’ And, of course, win awards.
