Second RAC awards honour Galen Weston

The executive chairman of Loblaw Companies Limited was awarded a special citation as Hall of Fame Retailer, with nine others taking home awards in separate industry categories.

The cream of the crop in Canadian retail were honoured in Toronto yesterday with Galen Weston being crowned their king.

The second annual Retail Advertising & Marketing Canada (RAC) Awards, which are decided by a national vote of industry peers, bestowed kudos to 10 of Canada’s top retail organizations, nine of whom won in separate industry categories recognizing ‘the retail marketers who best communicate with their consumer in an impactful way.’ Weston, executive chairman of Loblaw Companies Limited, was awarded a special citation as Hall of Fame Retailer, recognizing the individual whose marketing and branding achievements have most positively influenced the Canadian retail landscape over the last year.

The other winners included: Tim Hortons, winning in the counter service restaurants category; The Keg Steakhouse and Bar in full service restaurants; Shoppers Drug Mart in mass retail/department/pharmacy/grocery; Lululemon Athletica in apparel and fashion retailers; Ikea Canada in specialty retail; Rogers Communications in mobile/telecommunications; Imperial Oil/Esso – On the Run in gasoline/convenience stores; Volkswagen Group Canada in automotive; and TD Canada Trust in banks and financial.

Over 200 retailers and retail marketing services companies were present at the awards. RAC boasts a membership of about 300 major retail organizations and retail marketing communications companies, and provides the industry with a platform for retail marketing, advertising professional business development with a unique Canadian perspective, and fostering a community where business needs are buoyed by the exchange of ideas and information.
