Cheil hires a dozen

Cheil Canada is continuing its upward growth trajectory with a slew of new hires. In very short order, the agency has grown from a nine-person shop based in Mississauga, ON., to a 27-person strong agency located in downtown Toronto, recently having made 12 additions to its staff across the board.

“I’ve been asked by a lot of senior agency and marketing leaders who I believe our competition to be,” says Matt Cammaert, president, Cheil Worldwide Canada. “Without hesitation, we can compete with any agency in the country, based on the depth of the senior leadership team and the quality of talent that are now here and committed to what we are building at Cheil, both in Canada and internationally.”

Included in the additions is Jason Partridge, formerly of Venture Communications, Grip and Publicis. He has joined the Cheil creative team as senior writer. Partridge has experience working on brands including Walmart and Alexander Keith’s. Other new creative team members include Scott Lew from Naked Creative, and Cai Li and Tom Mednick from TBWA.

Josie Cuttorelli has joined Cheil’s client services team as account director. She arrives at the agency from MacLaren McCann where she spent the last seven-and-a-half years working on clients including GM and World Vision, and building up a strong background in digital. Joining her in client services are Demetri Conias from Henderson Bas Kohn, Lindsay Wagter from Uptimes Software and new grad Michelle Plenner.

Joe Borges has been brought in as senior designer and studio production director of Cheil’s production/studio team. He’s spent the last 14 years at Ogilvy, working as a jack of all trades, having a hand in design, layout, print and IT. Joining him on the production/studio team is Nestor Mercado, who comes to the agency all the way from MacLaren McCann in the Philippines.

Cheil has also added to its digital team, bringing on Jeff Laughlin as technical director. Laughlin spent the last eight years at Corus Entertainment in the same role. Tom Blackmore, formerly of Dashboard, joins him on the team.
