TBWA\Toronto hires new managing director

TBWA\Toronto has brought in George Nguyen as its new managing director. He moves to the agency having spent the past four years growing the TBWA\Vietnam office to a staff of 90, from 16, in the same role. He’ll join the ranks on July 15.

“George brings with him a perspective more in-line with today’s global society,” said Jay Bertram, president of TBWA\Latin American & Canada. “TBWA\Toronto recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, and now our new leadership team is complete and ready to… take the agency into the next 25 years.”

In Vietnam, Nguyen handled advertising accounts for the one of the nation’s telcos, multiple beer labels and brands across a number of FMCG categories, according to the release. Prior to the joining the TBWA network, he worked at Arnold, Lowe NY and Strawberryfrog in the U.S., with clients such as General Motors, Volkswagen and XM Satellite Radio.

Nguyen’s appointment comes on the heels of two major client losses at the Toronto agency in 2012: Visa moved its account to BBDO in September, while WestJet and the agency parted ways a month later.
