DHX Media brings licensing into one division

The Degrassi and Caillou property owner is launching DHX Brands to bring in more consumer products revenue.

DHX Media is bringing its international consumer products licensing efforts under one umbrella by launching DHX Brands.

The Halifax-based kids TV producer, the largest independent children TV producer in the world, has Peter Byrne adding EVP of DHX Brands to his existing role as CEO of DHX Media’s subsidiary licensing agency business as it looks to mine its programming characters, including the Degrassi property, for added toy, apparel and accessory spin-offs.

Byrne will be backed by a U.K.-based team, as Tor Bushell takes on the role of VP, brand management and Paul Keech expands his own role to VP, creative services, both at DHX Brands.

And Tom Roe is named commercial director, DHX Brands.

The goal is bringing DHX Media’s licensing and merchandising activities into one consumer products arm.

Other kids properties to be possibly turned into consumer product lines include Yo Gabba Gabba!, In the Night Garden, Caillou and the Teletubbies franchise.
