John Boynton will join Aimia and Aeroplan as the CMO of the Canadian office, a new position at the company, according to a release.
In his role, Boynton will lead all marketing activity at the loyalty program, with a focus on “accelerating the development of innovative products and marketing,” as well as lead all proprietary loyalty business.
Most recently Boynton served as EVP and CMO at Rogers, where he worked for 12 years. Prior to Rogers, he worked at Spring and AT&T, as well as KFC and PepsiCo in successively more senior roles.
Boynton left the Canadian telco back in May in the midst of its senior management restructuring.
Aeroplan is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The former Air Canada frequent flyer program split from its parent company in 2002, and evolved itself from a travel rewards program to a coalition program, bringing on board retail partners from around Canada. In 2011, Aeroplan became the Amia group, which then went on a global expansion spree, picking up majority shares in Air Miles in the Middle East, investing in coalition points program China Rewards and launching Nectar, a loyalty program in the U.K. and Italy.
