Nolin BBDO names new managing director

Looking to provide better integrated solutions, Nolin BBDO has added to its leadership team, bringing in Matyas Gabor in the dual roles of managing director and head of digital innovation.

Gabor was previously VP of consulting and marketing at Montreal-based digital agency W.illi.am for more than six years. While there, he worked with clients including Hydro Quebec, Birks, Bombardier and Guerlain Canada.

As managing director, Gabor will be in charge of the business elements of the agency. Creative director Stéphane Charier will still lead the creative, working closely with Gabor, who will provide support on digital elements in his head of digital innovation role.

Charier had been co-director general with Geneviève Grenier since early 2012, shortly after the merger with BBDO Montreal. The agency began searching for a dedicated managing director following Grenier’s departure in the fall. Charier says that as the search began, the needs of the agency and its clients led them to realize they needed someone from the digital world.

Charier says Gabor’s digital knowledge complements his own expertise on traditional platforms and by working together hopes the agency will be able to give a more comprehensive integrated offering to clients.

“We have clients that are also evolving, so we need to evolve and offer those solutions,” he says, adding potential clients would be attracted to an integrated approach. “We hear from [clients] that they go to a digital [shop] that is more technical and doesn’t end up knowing the branding, but then go to an agency that is great at that but doesn’t get the digital world. It’s clear there’s confusion and they need help.”
