Cannes roundup: A Grand Prix and a Young Lions win

It’s been an exciting beginning to the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, with Canada already walloping our total medal count from last year, which was 15 (and we’ve only had two award ceremonies so far). Counting the Health Lions and Young Lions, we’re now at 21 awards with several big categories, such as Film and Cyber, still to come.

Yesterday brought a bit of confusion as to how to count a few of the awards, since Leo Burnett’s “#LikeAGirl” (the biggest winner so far) was listed as American for the PR and Media categories, due to the U.S.-based agencies that collaborated on the campaign in those categories. But after speaking with a Lions representative, we’re confident we can count them as Canadian wins.

Our Young Lions Media team – Megan Metzak, national account manager at Olive Media, and Celia Gibb, senior communications strategist at M2 – also came away with some hardware, picking up a Silver for their idea for Malaria No More UK.

Here’s the Canadian Lions tally so far (including Health Lions):

Grand Prix: one
Gold: six
Silver: six
Bronze: six
Glass Lions: one
Young Lions: one (Silver)
