A charity initiative swapped out the traditional "hamburger menu" on major websites for a tastier-looking version.

We’ve previously covered why the “hamburger menu” – the ever-present menu button on apps and mobile sites – leaves a lot to be desired from a design and user interface perspective. But since it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon, we might as well make the most of it, right?

Last Saturday was National Hamburger Day, and while chains big and small across the country celebrated by making all kinds of new burger creations, McDonald’s Canada got the team at Tribal Worldwide Canada to create a design kit that let brand partners replace their boring, controversial hamburger menu with an actual hamburger for the day. The effort was in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities, and every time a user clicked/tapped the burger, McDonald’s Canada donated 10 cents to the charity.

Screenshot_2016-05-28-20-36-11Scotiabank, 500px and The Weather Network (pictured left) were the partners for the first “Burger Swap” charity drive, resulting in $10,000 raised for RMHC.
