Toronto-based Public is growing, with additions across multiple departments.
Public specializes in marketing related to social good, having previously worked with brands including Starbucks, TD, Rexall and Indigo. Phil Haid, the agency’s CEO and co-founder, says the hires are reflective of the importance the agency puts on hiring people from diverse backgrounds, experiences and skillsets, which is “essential” to serving clients looking to solve both social impact and broader business challenges.
Leading the new hires are senior client director Lynn Sivec and client director Jane Ottensmeyer. Sivec brings global experience working in client services with agencies including Ogilvy and Zig, as well as McCann Hong Kong. Ottensmeyer comes with experience from client and strategy roles at U.S. agencies GOOD Worldwide and C Space.
In the creative department, the agency has brought on the creative team of art director Samantha April and copywriter Olivia Seibutis, who join from Publicis, where they worked on clients including Rogers and WestJet. Also joining the creative department is designer Julie Laude, who has been hired full-time after working with Public as a freelancer, and previously worked in Veritas’ design department on clients including Labatt, Revlon, Subway, Best Buy and Microsoft.
On the social team, Aswini Sivaraman has been hired as manager of social media and analytics, with Laura Penalosa joining as the agency’s new relationship manager. Sivaraman was most recently communications manager for WWF in Singapore, while Penalosa led the social responsibility division at Columbia consulting firm ABACO.
Dubinia Nieforth and Lauren Grosberg have also been hired as project managers, with Nieforth previously being a freelancer and Grosberg joining from digital social change agency Grassriots.
