VaynerMedia is expanding into a full-service agency Canada in what will be the company’s eleventh office worldwide.
VaynerMedia has been operating relatively quietly in Canada for five years, with a Toronto outpost serving the agency’s North American media assignment with Mondelez. That assignment was renewed late last year.
Now, the agency is adding creative and strategy services to its offering.
Jeanny Ponce (pictured, right) has been promoted to VP and country manager to oversee the agency as its business expands. Ponce has been with the company in various capacities since it established itself in Canada, mostly recently being named VP of media in 2020 and leading the Mondelez account.
“We’ve established a great presence in the Canadian market with the Mondelez business,” says Gary Vaynerchuck, the CEO and co-founder of the agency. “I’ve been a long-time fan of many Canadian-based businesses and see multiple opportunities in the region. I feel the market is right to bring VaynerMedia’s incredible social-first strengths in creative and media to clients in Canada and am thrilled to expand our presence here. Jeanny’s knowledge and expertise of both the market and VaynerMedia make her the perfect lead as we make this transition.”
“We see an opportunity to grow brands that view our unique offering as an appeal,” Ponce tells strategy. “VaynerMedia is a social-first agency, with full-service capabilities in strategy, creative, media and analytics. We’re global practitioners of platforms and culture, and we’re thrilled to be in the Canadian market.”
Ponce brings more than 15 years of experience to the role. She came to the Canadian market in 2012 and has since worked for agencies including Carat, Cossette and Starcom. She has worked on brands across several sectors such as CPG, beauty and finance.
VaynerMedia’s headcount in Toronto currently sits at approximately 20, with postings currently up for a strategy director and senior strategy associate, as well as more additions to its media team. The agency was not able to share details about other clients being served out of Toronto.
The expansion is the latest move globally for the independent, which was founded in the U.S. in 2009. In the last four years, it has grown exponentially, adding five offices in Asia-Pacific, one in the U.K., one in Mexico and one in the Netherlands. It also has offices in New York and Los Angeles. In other markets, VaynerMedia clients include Budweiser, TikTok, Planters and PepsiCo.
