Online investment management brand Wealthsimple has named Rubina Singh as its new CMO, one of two major additions to its executive team.

Singh joins the company with nearly a decade of senior marketing leadership experience at brands primarily within the tech space, including social media platform Pinterest and climate technology company Arcadia. In her new role, she will be tasked with leading Wealthsimple’s full-funnel marketing team “to help take our brand to the next level,” according to a statement from the brand.

She takes over a role previously held by Rudy Adler, who co-founded Wealthsimple with Michael Katchen and Brett Huneycutt. Adler will continue to act as an advisor for the company.

Diederik van Liere is assuming the role of chief technology officer and will lead the brand’s engineering and data teams, helping to scale and strengthen Wealthsimple’s platform. This is a promotion for van Liere, who has been part of the brand’s engineering leadership team since 2018, most recently as its VP of data science and engineering.

Previous CTO Karney Li is moving into a new role with the company as chief architect.

“Rubina and Diederik are highly experienced industry leaders and I’m thrilled to welcome them to Wealthsimple’s executive team,” says Katchen, currently the company’s CEO. “Both will help drive the company forward.”

One of Canada’s fastest growing financial services companies, Wealthsimple currently serves 3 million Canadians and holds over $20 billion in assets. It was impacted by the downturn for fintechs last year, however, and in June of 2022, laid off 13% of its staff, citing market volatility.
