John St. names Krystle Mullin CCO

John St. has hired Krystle Mullin as chief creative officer after an “extensive” search.

The CCO role was previously held by John St. veteran Cher Campbell, who was in the post for more than six years before leaving last March.

Mullin was most recently ECD at Edelman, leading global accounts for HP and Lululemon. She was part of the PR shop’s senior hires when it announced the launch of its global creative hub in Canada in Jan. 2021.

Prior to that, Mullin was VP creative director at RPA in L.A., running the Honda, Amazon Prime Video and La-Z-Boy accounts.

“This is a new creative era for John St. and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have [Mullin] at the helm,” says Allison Ballantyne, president of John St. “With a wealth of experience across brand advertising, but also strong recent experience at Edelman across earned and PR – as well as roots in data-centric creative work from her time at FCB/Six – John St. is poised for a very strong future.”

Mullin started with John St. at the beginning of September and has already helped the agency to win two new pieces of business, including BarBurrito.

In 2019, Mullin was named to Adweek’s Creative 100 list and honoured as one of Canada’s Top Ten Creative Directors by strategy. Her work has been recognized by Cannes Lions, The One Show, The Clios and D&AD, among others.

In a statement, Mullin referred to John St., where she once interned, as “an iconic brand in and of itself, with a strong legacy of producing unignorable creative that stands out at a global level.”

Mullin was recently the keynote speaker at the Cannes Lions “See it Be it” conference in July. She has also participated as a speaker at the 3% Conference, whose mission is to correct the underrepresentation of women in senior advertising roles.

John St. represents brands like Sunwing Vacations and Home Hardware.
