Vocabulary hires Brian Flaman as VP, managing director

Independent strategy, branding, experience and design company Vocabulary has tapped Brian Flaman to step into the company’s VP, managing director role.

Flaman will step into a leadership role with the agency’s new Toronto team. The shop was previously only based in Los Angeles and New York. Prior to Vocabulary, Flaman worked as managing director, Canada for Motive, and as account director at Mosaic North America. With Motive, Flaman worked with Canadian clients like PepsiCo Beverages, PepsiCo Foods and Lululemon.

Weber Shandwick appoints Marlo Taylor as SVP

Weber Shandwick Canada has brought a new SVP aboard, appointing Marlo Taylor to the position.

Taylor will work as senior vice president and national leader of Weber Shandwick’s healthcare practice, overseeing client development and talent acquisition. Taylor has worked in public relations for more than two decades, leading teams at global and boutique agencies.

“Marlo has a proven record of helping leading clients navigate this fast-paced industry as a trusted counsellor,” Weber Shandwick Canada CEO and president Greg Power said in a news release announcing the personnel move. “Her dynamic, creative and results-driven approach will redefine how we position our clients’ contributions to one of the most critical and rapidly changing sectors in society.” 

Taylor previously worked at Gage Communications, Energi PR, GlobalHealthPR and National Public Relations. She was recently named Toronto’s PR Professional of the Year by the Canadian Public Relations Society.

NKPR picks up three AOR partnerships

PR firm NKPR is rounding out 2023 in a busy fashion with a series of AOR announcements.

NKPR has been tapped as the agency of record for cosmetics company Aveda Canada, architecture and design firm Martha Franco Architecture & Design (MFA&D), and real estate company Krpan Group.

Aveda is working with NKPR to amplify the company’s presence in Canada, with a focus on brand-building initiatives through social media and influencer relations management.

For MFA&D, the PR firm will be tapped to build the architecture firm’s presence with a focus on media relations, thought leadership, brand building and strategic partnerships.

And NKPR will support Krpan Group in their partnership across key launches and announcements, media and social strategy, thought leadership for company CEO John Krpan, brand building, and strategic planning and consulting.

Coldwater Communications names Nela Drury partner

PR agency Coldwater Communications has tapped Nela Drury as a new partner for the company in Toronto.

Drury has worked with Coldwater for more than two years, and in that time she’s worked as a senior PR consultant, and as director of accounts and business development. Prior to joining the agency, she worked as a communications consultant internal to the Canadian federal government, where she led various strategic communications initiatives on anti-racism, gender equity, immigration and COVID-19.

As a partner, Drury will be responsible for business development initiatives, leveraging her industry experience and network to identify and foster new client partnerships and business. She’ll also serve as a primary point of contact for Coldwater clients across Canada.
