Industry Moves: Beverley Hammond appointed new ICA board chair

ICA names board chair

The Institute of Canadian Agencies (ICA) has made a major change to its board, appointing Beverley Hammond as its chair.

Hammond is a founding partner and chief business officer at the Toronto-based agencies Broken Heart Love Affair and Lifelong Crush. Previously, Hammond founded the agency Republic and worked for 12 years as president and CEO, and then chair, of Veritas Communications.

Hammond also served as the first female chair of the Board of Special Olympics Canada, where she oversaw the only restructure of the organization’s national governance in its 40-year history. She also founded the G(irls)20 Global Summit and served as a director on the board of the LCBO, as well as several not-for-profit boards.

In her new role with the ICA, Hammond is tasked with bringing focus to the trade body’s work to“shape the business environment for agencies to thrive.

“As an agency owner, I’m inspired by the new ICA commitment to positively shape the business environment for all agencies in Canada to thrive,” Hammond said in a news release announcing the appointment.

“There is, of course, a wide variety of agency types, structures, and sizes across our sector but for all of our differences, there are more opportunities and challenges that we share, and I’m keen to get after these from an industry wide perspective, to support the growth of robust creative enterprises across Canada.”

The outgoing chair, Ira Baptiste, was appointed to the role in 2022 and will now remain on the board as vice chair. Baptiste is also the president of Evolve Agency Group and helped to lead the ICA and its members after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ICA also announced that Cairns Oneil president Devon MacDonald has joined its board.
