Pizza Pizza is once again giving a shout-out to singles on Valentine’s Day, this time with the “Third Wheel Wheel Deal” offered at select locations, and by temporarily changing its name to “Pizza Pizza Pizza.”
The campaign, created by the brand’s AOR Zulu Alpha Kilo, will see participating locations offer a free medium one-topping pizza to any single person who is accompanied by a couple between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time, and who shows the Pizza Pizza Pizza app in order to redeem the offer. The offer is available at nine locations across the country, in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.
“We love the juxtaposition of heroing the third wheel next to the couple because it’s usually the other way around,” says Amber Winters, senior director of marketing for Pizza Pizza. “We just thought that single people are the easiest ones to feel left out and we really wanted to hone in on them to feel the love as well.”
The campaign’s development stems from the success of last year’s “Singles for Singles” promotion, Zulu Alpha Kilo chief creative officer Brian Murray says. That campaign offered single people a free slice on Valentine’s Day and saw the QSR change its name to just “Pizza” as part of the campaign.
Historically, Pizza Pizza has done well on Valentine’s Day with families and couples. As part of its “Everyone Deserves Pizza” brand platform, both campaigns continue its mission of making everyone feel included.
In addition to the “The Third Wheel Wheel Deal,” Pizza Pizza will continue with its tradition of carrying “Heart Pizzas” on Valentine’s Day. A portion of every heart-shaped pizza goes to a local children’s hospital foundation near each location through Pizza Pizza’s Slices For Smiles Foundation.
The campaign is rolling out on social, search, display, programmatic, earned media and influencers. Paid media is handled by Media Experts and public relations by spPR.
The brand’s “Everyone Deserves Pizza” platform also includes the recent “Fixed-Rate Pizza” campaign, which offers a fixed price for a four-topping XL pizza all year to keep pizza affordable.
