Tim Hortons makes its theatrical debut with musical

Tim Hortons is premiering a new musical based on a true story as part of its 60th anniversary.

The brand’s 70-minute musical “The Last Timbit” follows a group of people who are stranded in a Tim Hortons restaurant due to a snowfall. It was inspired by one of the biggest snowfalls in history that led dozens of strangers to seek refuge for more than 24 hours in one of the brand’s restaurants in Sarnia, Ontario, in 2010.

Created in partnership with agency Gut and Come From Away producer Michael Rubinoff, the show will play at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre from June 26 to 30.

Tim Hortons said the company is drawing on a true story to highlight the importance of family and the power of community, while showing how the brand has been through tough times for Canadians.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Michael Rubinoff and an incredible team and cast to bring ‘The Last Timbit’ to life,” said Hope Bagozzi, chief marketing officer for Tim Hortons.

“Great musical theatre is telling compelling stories,” Rubinoff said. “‘The Last Timbit’ is a celebration of that community connection that will surprise and delight audiences with its heart and humour.”

Tim Hortons also partnered with Roots for the musical’s wardrobe and merchandising. Roots stylists will work with the costume designer to reflect the personalities of each character through the wardrobe, while highlighting their clothing and leather collections.

To support the show, the QSR has also launched a national contest inviting Canadians to share their stories about how the brand has played a special role in their lives. The contest winners will receive free tickets.

The musical follows product launches Tim Hortons has announced as part of its anniversary, which takes place in May. The brand kicked off the year by launching Retro Donuts, with four iconic flavors (the Cinnamon Sugar Twist, Walnut Crunch, Dutchie and Blueberry Fritter), and three months later introduced a flatbread pizza to its stores.

The company is also commemorating 25 years of its Iced Capp with the launch of the new Caramilk Iced Capp and the return of the Oreo Double Stuf Iced Capp.
