Canadian agencies pick up two Grand Clios

Canadian agencies Rethink and VML were recognized on the global stage, picking up a pair of Grand Clios in New York this week. Rethink was also named Independent Agency of the Year.

In the Out of Home category, “Coors Lights Out” from Rethink was also recognized wih a Grand Clio. The work saw the agency recreate the black square on a Coors Light billboard (which baseball player Shohei Otani created when he hit a foul ball) across media channels and product packaging.

Over in Media, “Sans Émission” from VML for Volkswagen Canada picked up the top award. Working alongside media agency Touche, VML and Volkswagen transformed Quebec TV station Noovo’s overnight end-of-broadcast – when TV stations go dark and night owls have nothing to watch – into a media space to promote its EVs.

Clio CEO Nicole Purcell said the winners were chosen for showcasing exceptional execution, while embodying breakthrough storytelling and bringing ideas to life that stood taller than the rest of the work being discussed.

Announced earlier this year, several Canadian agencies picked up more than 80 Clio award wins in total, including 15 Golds.

The Grand Clios were handed out in a ceremony on Wednesday. Entries from 15 countries won the top prize, including Canada, the U.S., France, Japan, Brazil, Spain, Australia, Colombia and Uruguay.
