The board of the Association of Canadian Advertisers (ACA) and members of the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) have ratified a one-year renewal of the National Commercial Agreement (NCA).
The agreement took effect on June 12 and will run until May 31, 2025. The NCA is the collective agreement that governs how advertisers and their agencies are to engage with unionized actors for commercial productions.
The agreement includes a 5% general pay increase across the board for ACTRA performers, in a move that ACTRA national executive director and chief negotiator Marie Kelly says is “unprecedented.” She added that the agreement provides stability for its members.
“Our advertising agency members who hire ACTRA performers to produce our commercials will be able do so without disruption,” said ACA vice president of media policy and marketing capabilities Judy Davey in a press release. “Our ACA advertisers recognize the value ACTRA performers bring to every commercial production. I am pleased our Board has ratified the NCA renewal.”
The ACA and ACTRA entered into an agreement two years ago, after the Institute of Canadian Agencies (ICA) stepped away from the agreement. A labour dispute between the ICA and ACTRA remains ongoing.
