Rona has new president and CEO
Home improvement retailer Rona has appointed J.P. Towner to the role of president and CEO.
Towner joined Rona, which operates 425 corporate and affiliated stores, in October 2023 as chief financial officer. He is a seasoned executive with more than 15 years of experience in corporate strategy, financial management and leadership.
Towner has previously held top leadership roles in high-profile Canadian retail and construction companies, including working as chief financial officer at Dollarama, and executive vice-president and chief financial officer at Pomerleau Inc.
Corus announces early retirement of president and CEO
Corus Entertainment says that president and CEO Doug Murphy has made the decision to take an early retirement after more than 30 years in broadcasting and media, and 21 years with the company.
He first joined Corus in 2003 as executive vice president of business development and held successively more senior positions until 2015 when he was appointed president and CEO. During his tenure, he oversaw the transformation of Corus’ television portfolio and its expansion in digital media with the launch of StackTV in 2019, the Global TV App and Pluto TV.
The company’s board has named Troy Reeb and John Gossling as co-CEOs. Reeb is a media industry veteran who recently assumed responsibility for studio content, having overseen multi-platform broadcast networks, news and audio since 2019. Prior to joining Corus in 2016, Gossling served as executive VP of finance at Telus and chief financial officer of CTVGlobemedia.
CMHC has a new president and CEO
The federal government has named Coleen Volk as president and CEO of Canada Mortgage and Housing, and Don Iveson as chair of the board of directors.
Volk has a range of professional experience including deputy minister roles in the Alberta government, work at CIBC in corporate treasury, and nine years at CMHC including as assistant vice-president of finance.
Iveson served as mayor of Edmonton from 2013 to 2021 and is principal for the public policy consultancy Civic Good.
Volk’s appointment comes after previous CEO Romy Bowers stepped down at the end of 2023, midway through her five-year term.
