Cannes Digest: Catch up with an early look at Canada’s Lion results

As the first official day of the 71st Lions Festival in Cannes nears an end, more than half of the category shortlists have already been released, and some Canadian work has received recognition.

As of Monday morning, Canadian creative has been included on the shortlists 129 times.

Rethink’s “Coors Lights Out” campaign for Coors Light has already emerged as an award favourite, with a Silver in the Outdoor category, and 10 shortlist nods in total. Edelman Toronto for Allegra Airways, Klick Health for Cafe Joyeux, Bensimon Byrne for White Ribbon and Rethink for Heinz Ketchup are also early Cannes Lions Silver and Bronze winners from the first day.

Along with Rethink’s Coors Light work, the agency’s “Heinz Ketchup & Seemingly Ranch” campaign also picked up 10 shortlist nominations. The other campaigns landing on Cannes’ shortlists this year are Ogilvy’s “Cost of Beauty” campaign for Dove, Dentsu’s “Inflation Cookbook” campaign for SkipTheDishes, and the “Driving While Black” campaign for Courageous Conversation Global Foundation from Critical Mass Calgary.

At the awards show this evening, Gold and Grand Prix Lion winners in the Pharma, Health & Wellness, Print & Publishing, Outdoor, and Audio & Radio categories are scheduled to be announced.

While Canada was shut out of Print & Publishing and Audio & Radio, it has 21 total shortlist nominations across the other three categories that have a chance at winning a top prize tonight.
